Happiness can be found from a lot of things or no (worldly) things, but today we are going to focus on happy found from movement.
Have you ever thought to yourself that you are committed to a new years resolution? And then you go to absolutely not starting it because it is too big a goal? Ha! That is common and it happens even to the best of us!
To know what your goal is, first find out what your weaknesses are and what you would like to improve on.
To make it easier to achieve your goal, make simple goals with the SMART mindset – S=Specific ; M=Measurable ; A=Achieveable ; R=Realistic ; T=Timely.
The goal could be something as simple as I want to walk 1,000 steps a day within 7 days! (There is Specific and Measurable = 1,000 steps; Achievable = if you have 2 feet and a sound mind, it is achievable; Realistic = unless you have had a stroke, traumatic brain injury or nervous system disability, it will be realistic to put that number to the goal; Timely = 7 days to achieve it for a usually sedentary otherwise healthy adult is reasonable time.
Now, look, I know 1,000 steps is very little. But did you know that just those 1,000 steps alone can help boost your endorphin levels as you move your body to your destination?
So why wait? Start today!
Move towards YOUR happy, because YOU deserve it!
There are some studies that have shown that walking appears to show positive effects on mental health, with the most evidence for improvement with depression. However, it is clear that the research in this field is limited especially with the types of walk.
Yes, I know I know (you literature fanatics are probably bombarding me with the side glances now), the walking has to be at least of moderate intensity for it to be effective in terms of cardiovascular fitness outcomes. Moderate intensity workout means you are slightly out of breath when walking but still able to speak a long sentence without too much gasping for air in between. There is a growing body of evidence that the faster the walking, the greater the health benefits according to research.
So, what are you waiting for? Let’s go! Shoes on!
